Archaeology of Artists' Studios

A collaborative project with Carolyn L. White.
The Archaeology of Artists’ Studios is a collaboration between Steven Seidenberg (artist and philosopher) and Carolyn White (archaeologist). Berlin provides a setting in which to explore theoretical questions at the intersections of archaeology, cultural anthropology, philosophy, and art and to experiment with methodological innovations that bridge the disciplines. Ideas about past, present, and future come together in myriad ways in artists’ spaces, and the study of temporality as it relates to place and space is a key element of this project. The cyclical nature of artist communities and the fluid nature of artist lives allows an understanding of multi-temporal permutations of the same space. As collaborators, we focus on the ways that interdisciplinarity transforms the ways we see and understand space.
